Privacy policy
In short: we keep your account and what your usage cost. We never keep screenshots, audio, text, questions or answers.
Draft: needs legal review. This text doesn't apply until it has been reviewed. Last changed October 31, 2026.
Who is responsible
Daia AS (org. no. [placeholder]), Norway, is the controller for the personal data processed when you use Opie and tryopie.com. You can reach us at hei@tryopie.com.
What we keep
- Your account: your email address, the language you chose and when the account was made.
- Your plan: which plan you have, its status and renewal date, and your customer ID at Stripe. Only Stripe has your card details.
- Devices: the name of each computer you've connected, when it was connected and last used. We keep the app's key only as a hash.
- The usage log: for each answer the time, the kind (answer, voice, speech recognition or search), which model was used and what it cost. We need this to show how much you have left. The content isn't in it.
- Referrals and family: your referral code, who referred you, and family links (email addresses, status, and whether lesson titles are shared).
- Sign-in: one-time codes (as a hash, for 10 minutes), sessions (30 days) and abuse counters (as a hash, for up to a day).
What we never keep
Our server keeps no screenshots, audio, transcripts, questions or answers, and our logs don't contain them. When you ask, this happens:
- Opie takes a picture of your screen and sends it with your question to our server.
- Our server passes it on to a language model through OpenRouter, only to providers that have committed to not storing the request (zero data retention) and not training on it.
- The answer streams straight back to you. We only note what it cost.
Voice: the text Opie reads aloud is sent to ElevenLabs with logging turned off. When you speak, the audio is sent to ElevenLabs for speech recognition, and ElevenLabs may keep it under its own policy. To avoid that, turn on “On-device speech recognition only” in the app, and your Mac turns your speech into text by itself.
Web search: when Opie searches the web, the search goes through OpenRouter to a search service. That part isn't covered by zero data retention.
What stays on your computer
Lessons, learning memory and settings are stored only on your Mac. We can't see them. You delete them in the app. If you use your own Claude or ChatGPT subscription, your questions go straight to Anthropic or OpenAI, and the voice to ElevenLabs with your own key, under your agreements with them. None of that goes through us.
